A big-name tenant has landed at a large industrial building in Charlotte, expanding its footprint in the area. Frito-Lay, the potato chips and snack foods maker, has signed a lease to occupy Geneva II, a 243,072-square-foot building on General Drive near Carowinds. The company signed a long-term lease, according to building owner and developer Childress Klein. Frito-Lay also extended its existing lease at Geneva I, the neighboring building of 353,216 square feet.
An attempt to reach Frito-Lay for more details about the expansion, including how many jobs will be created, was unsuccessful before deadline.
Geneva II includes 32-foot clear heights, 45 dock doors and 68 trailer parking spaces with potential expansion to 167. The building also includes 172 employee parking spaces. The building was built in 2019, according to Childress Klein, shortly after Geneva I was built the year prior. The buildings are in the Arrowood Industrial area.
Scott Dumler, Chuck Stauffer and Pat McCaffrey of Cresa represented Frito-Lay in the deal. Matt Harper and Elise Falls led Childress Klein's efforts on the transaction.
According to Charlotte Business Journal data, industrial is the largest piece of Childress Klein's portfolio in the area. The Charlotte-based company is the Charlotte area's largest commercial real estate developer, having developed 4.75 million square feet of space between 2016 and 2020. Industrial made up 38% of the total square footage developed in that time, data shows.
