Sue Rogers To Be Honored at BisNow Power Women Event

Sue Rogers, a principal in Cresa’s Houston office, will be honored at BisNow’s inaugural Houston Power Women event on Dec. 11 at the Hilton Americas hotel.

BisNow’s Power Women initiative recognizes industry leaders who not only helped break the glass ceiling with their accomplishments but continue to shape the commercial real estate landscape.

In all, 27 of the city’s most powerful and influential women in real estate will be awarded the prestigious award at this year’s luncheon. Honorees also will share their achievements as well as discuss strategies to promote recruitment and advancement of women in the industry.

Rogers, who was recently asked to speak on a panel for RedNews’ Women in Real Estate Summit in September, talked about the challenges she faced and how she found success as a pioneer in an industry that had been historically male dominated.

“I think you have to have the desire and fight to go after it,” Rogers said. “You need that resolve to keep going after it, even when all the odds are against you.”

That conviction continues to be a key factor in driving Rogers, and despite the adversity earlier in her career, she wouldn’t change a thing.

“I think everything I went through made me who I am today and made me as successful as I am today,” Rogers said.

While noting the industry has come a long way over time, Rogers said that there still aren’t enough women in leadership positions.

“The most significant barrier to female leadership is being heard,” she said. “You have to take your place at the table and speak from a place of knowledge of confidence.”

As for any advice for women looking to get into the business in the future, Rogers had this to offer:

“Utilize the work of previous generations of women leaders. Don’t take their work for granted. Push harder and further than where we are today. Keep your eye on the prize and never give up.”
